SummaryI have had two primary areas of research interests that include: 1) cardiovascular infections, and 2) skin and soft tissue infections. I have spent two decades examining a variety of aspects that relate to both groups of infections. I have had an ongoing interest in endocarditis, and more recently I have also examined infection of cardiovascular devices that include electrophysiologic devices, vascular grafts, stents, and assist devices, among others. I, along with colleagues of the American Heart Association's Rheumatic Fever, Endocarditis and Kawasaki Disease Committee, published a Scientific Statement that reviews cardiovascular device-related infections. I have ongoing research that investigates risk factors for the development of both vascular graft and electrophysiologic device infections.
Cellulitis has been a particular interest of mine and represents a common clinical malady among skin and soft tissue infections. Most recently, we have examined risk factors for the development of breast cellulitis that complicates breast conservation therapy for the treatment of early stage breast cancer.
