Summary

Research in the laboratory of Andrew D. Badley, M.D., focuses on virus-host interactions, in particular how viral proteins modify the host immune response and/or cell survival.

Focus areas

Examples of projects include:

  • TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) therapy for HIV
  • HIV proteins Vpr and protease and their impact on host cell survival

Significance to patient care

By learning how HIV infection modifies the host immune response and how HIV infection causes the death of some — but not all — CD4 T cells, Dr. Badley's long-term goal is to develop novel strategies to cure HIV by eradicating HIV from its reservoirs.
