SummaryUnderstanding the Genetic Basis for Vaccine Response Our twins study demonstrated a substantial genetic component to the variation in vaccine response for measles. Our population studies indicate racial variation as well as HLA associations. We are exploring the basis for this genetic variation as well as evaluating the genetic basis for variation in response to other vaccines as well including other live viral vaccines such as rubella and mumps. We are also exploring the genetic basis for response to the anthrax and smallpox vaccines--vaccines directed against bioterrorism. These investigations may very well lead to improved vaccines in the future. Recent publicationsEducation
