SummaryDr. Mukherjee's research interests include Overall research interest is to develop clinically applicable novel immunotherapeutic strategies in combination with conventional therapies and inhibitors of tumor-induced immune suppression against solid adenocarcinomas. In particular, the focus is on pancreatic and breast cancers since we have appropriate transgenic mouse models that develop the tumors spontaneously within the appropriate stromal and hormonal milieu, and in an immunocompetent host. The objectives include 1) breaking immune tolerance to self antigens that are usually over expressed or mutated in these solid adenocarcinomas such as MUC1, HER-2/neu, and mutated KRAS; 2) eliciting a long-lasting cellular immune response against the above tumor-associated antigens (TAA); and 3) overcoming the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment that is non-conducive to immune killing, particularly focusing on tumor-specific cyclooxygenase-2, prostaglandins, indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase, and T regulatory cells.
