Spinal orthotic treatment has been widely accepted for skeletally immature patients with moderate scoliosis. Several different brace designs appear to prevent scoliosis progression, but little information is available to determine the optimal brace design. The purpose of this project was to measure displacement of the human cadaveric thoracic trunk under various loading schemes (Figure 13). The information will be used to validate a finite element model developed by our collaborators to determine optimal force application characteristics which can be used to direct future brace design such as pad location.
