Ph.D. Statistician: Division Of Biostatistics

Degree Requirement: Ph.D. in Statistics or Biostatistics, with emphasis in applied statistics

The applicant's primary duty will be to collaborate with medical staff on a wide variety of clinical and basic research studies as a leader of a statistical team. The consulting involves study design and analysis, manuscript preparation, and oral presentations. The position requires outstanding oral and written communication skills, self-direction, and the ability to direct activities of assigned support staff. Biomedical consulting experience is a definite plus. Familiarity with some statistical computer packages (SAS, Splus) is desirable. Although the salary for this position does not require extramural support, demonstrated ability to obtain funding is a significant strength.

General Biostatistics

The incumbents will work within the Division of Biostatistics, with a charge to provide statistical support for one or more clinical departments. Primary responsibilities of the statistician will be:

  1. Participate in study design and creation of research proposals for both internal and external funding.
  2. Collaborate with medical researchers in the analysis and presentation of research studies. These include controlled clinical trials, population-based epidemiologic studies, reviews of patient series (some spanning 30+ years), and laboratory investigations.
  3. Provide leadership for a statistical team that includes M.S. and B.S. statisticians.
  4. Teach one 12-hour (one graduate credit) module per year in the series of courses sponsored by the Department of Health Sciences Research.
  5. Conduct and facilitate biostatistics research in support of the research priorities and the clinical practice of Mayo Clinic.
  6. Engage in scholarly activity and independent research of statistical methods and substantive biomedical applications.
