- Design toxicology and pharmacology studies to characterize novel genetically based therapeutic agents in consultation with the Principal Investigator(s) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
- Perform pilot studies to address technical issues and procedural details to finalize study design
- Prepare and implement Standard Operating Procedures for all animal work and analytical assays of the study
- Execute toxicology and/or pharmacology studies required by the FDA
- Specialty capabilities including VETSCAN blood and chemistry analyzers, surgery and imaging
- Prepare documentation of the study for submissions to internal and external governing and regulatory bodies as well as participate in all formal reviews of this information by these agencies
- Technical expertise includes: rodent breeding, health monitoring, electronic identification, general procedures including therapy models using intravenous, intra-cardiac and intra-peritoneal administration; blood analysis (small volume) including complete blood count differentials, coagulation tests, and blood chemistry profiles; tissue harvesting, processing and analysis including in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, enzyme assays, and quantitative polymerase chain reaction.
