Chemical Synthesis Core

Overview

Located at Mayo Clinic in Florida, the Chemical Synthesis Core provides consulting and small molecule synthesis services for researchers at Mayo Clinic and other institutions.

Known and novel synthetic molecules, bioconjugates, drugs and prodrugs produced by the Chemical Synthesis Core have applications in several fields of research, including pharmacology, medicinal and analytical chemistry, and biochemistry. For use as standards in high-performance liquid chromatography protocols and imaging studies, the core also synthesizes heavy isotope-labeled compounds.

During its more than 20 years in existence, the Chemical Synthesis Core has successfully improved syntheses of many known and unknown drug molecules. Innovative compounds and tools synthesized by the core are being used today in research and clinical laboratories at Mayo Clinic and elsewhere, and the core routinely publishes its findings in international peer-reviewed journals.

The Chemical Synthesis Core is the only facility at Mayo Clinic able to synthesize small molecules that are entirely novel or not commercially available. The core also provides some services that are either not readily available or prohibitively expensive at custom synthesis companies.
