About Dr. Talwalkar

Dr. Jayant Talwakar joined the staff of Mayo Clinic in 2000 where he is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine.

Dr. Talwalkar received his undergraduate and medical school degrees at the University of Illinois followed by postgraduate training at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. He completed a gastroenterology fellowship at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and advanced hepatology and liver transplantation fellowship training at Mayo Clinic.

Dr. Talwalkar’s research interests include identifying effective therapies and noninvasive biomarkers for assessing liver injury in human subjects with autoimmune hepatitis (AIH), primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC), primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), and drug-induced autoimmune hepatitis.Work in these areas has been sponsored by research grants from the Center for Translational Science Activities and the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Talwalkar has also served on the American Board of Internal Medicine, Test and Policy Committee for Transplant Hepatology and recently completed a three-year term as Chair of the Practice Guidelines Committee for the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD).
