Overview

The program offers patient-oriented clinical research in liver diseases such as primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC), nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and autoimmune hepatitis (AIH). The focus is on disease management and treatment of these specific liver diseases and includes clinical trials involving novel pharmacologic agents. Clinical trials may evaluate one or more experimental interventions in comparison with a standard treatment-placebo control among comparable groups of patients.

The lab offers a team approach to research and clinical programs with a commitment to the safety and well-being of human subjects. The team consists of hepatologists, a nurse practitioner, a registered nurse who holds a doctorate, a registered nurse research coordinator and clinical research coordinators.

One major initiative involves collaboration with scientists to establish translational research. The group includes collaborators from Mayo Clinic's Liver Pathobiology and Genomic Hepatobiology labs.
