Health information technology is becoming an integral part of an increasing number of acute care clinical settings. This change in the acute care environment brings with it both challenges and exciting opportunities.
Adoption of health information technology is expected to improve patient outcomes and deliver better health care at lower costs. The broad objective of the research laboratory of Vitaly Herasevich, M.D., Ph.D., and Brian W. Pickering, M.B., B.Ch., at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., is to translate that expectation into a reality.
The laboratory is concerned with all aspects of development, testing, adoption and implementation of health information technologies in both research and clinical settings. This requires collaboration among clinicians, informatics experts, programmers, engineers, cognitive scientists and health care delivery experts.
