Wnt/sFRP1 signaling in renal cell carcinoma

The Role of sFRP1 in Conventional Renal Cell Carcinoma
View PDF

We have recently discovered that secreted frizzled related protein 1 (sFRP1) is lost in early stage RCC. sFRP1 is a secreted glycoprotein that is a negative regulator of Wnt signaling. Wnt regulated molecules promote tumor growth, survival, invasion and metastasis. Our hypothesis is that this signaling sFRP1 must be silenced thereby allowing Wnt regulated genes to promote RCC tumorigenesis. We are currently exploring the mechanisms by which sFRP1 is lost and the Wnt pathways that sFRP1 regulates in RCC.
