Transmission Electron Microscopy

Specimen preparation

  • Standard tissue preparation from initial fixation through embedding
  • Microwave-accelerated processing is available

Shadow casting

  • A Denton model DV502A is used to rotary shadow samples with aluminum, tungsten or platinum.

Negative staining

  • Negative staining is available using phosphotungstic acid, uranyl acetate or ammonium molybdate

Thin sectioning

  • Plastic embedded tissue can be sectioned for the electron microscope with thickness ranges from 60nm to 250nm

Thick sectioning

  • Plastic embedded tissue can be sectioned for the light microscope with thickness ranges from 0.25µ to 2.0µ
  • Standard stain used is toluidine blue
  • Standard stains used are uranyl acetate and lead citrate
