Cellular and Molecular Endocrinology
The Cell and Molecular group consists of researchers in the Division of Endocrinology/Endocrine Research Unit, who are working on a diverse group of endocrine problems. The areas of research include thyroid cancer (Drs. McIver and Eberhardt), bone metabolism (Drs. Kearns and Khosla), growth factor regulation (Dr. Conover), autoimmune thyroid disease (Dr. Bahn), amyloid formation in type 2 diabetes and regulation of growth hormone gene expression (Dr. Eberhardt), role of calcium in atherogenesis (Dr. Fitzpatrick), muscle metabolism and aging (Dr. Nair), and molecular medicine approaches toward the treatment of cancer (Dr. Morris). This core emphasizes the methods of cell biology, molecular biology and recombinant DNA technology in their approaches of studying their respective disciplines. The primary purpose of the Cell and Molecular Core is to promote and disseminate the latest methodologies and development within the broad disciplines of molecular and cellular biology and apply them to the study of endocrine problems. The faculty within the Cell and Molecular Core interact extensively with their respective core groups where their research interests are also highlighted.
