Pituitary, Gonad, and Adrenal (PGA)

We focus on disorders of the pituitary gland, the gonads, and the adrenal glands. Basic science interests include studies on the structure and function of growth hormone related genes and control of placental growth hormone gene expression. Clinical research activities include trials of new medications for treatment of acromegaly, hyperaldosteronism and growth hormone deficiency. A new area of interest is a study of hypogonadism in the male transplant patient population. In addition, a large amount of data regarding clinical presentation, biochemical diagnosis and therapy of pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas have been collected, and we are in the process of establishing a large database of patients with Cushing's syndrome. In the near future, we plan to expand basic science research activities to study of the role of molecular genetics in the development of tumors arising from pituitary gland and chromaffin tissues.
