Fig. 22-8

Spatial distribution of MAb-35-LI-IR (a marker for nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, colored yellow) on a viscerofugal neuron in guinea pig distal colon retrogradely labeled with DiI and filled by microinjection with Lucifer Yellow. The viscerofugal neuron has Dogiel type I morphology; putative nicotinic acetylcholine receptors are located on the surface membrane and clusters of putative receptors covered the cell body and processes. The 3-D volume reconstructed images were made of neurons in whole mount preparations of guinea pig distal colon. Viscerofugal neurons were intracellularly injected with Lucifer Yellow after retrograde labeling with DiI, immunostained with Cy5-labeled MAb35 and imaged using a confocal microscope. Images were superimposed using ANALYZE software. Immunoreactive sites are colored yellow. (From Ermilov et al., 2003 (156), with permission.)
