Research Trainee and Fellow ProgramMETRIC is currently recruiting for its research trainee program. This program provides a solid mentored research experience that includes both didactics and hands-on, one-on-one mentoring. Each trainee is assigned a space in the department, a computer and a clinical research project to complete during his or her time in the program. As part of the mentored research experience, trainees will also take formal classes on how to use various computer programs and search MEDLINE and electronic journals. Individualized coaching is provided on scientific writing, poster presentations and conducting scientific analysis. If applicable, trainees also obtain advice on residency and fellowship applications. Trainees will typically produce three to five abstracts as first authors. Travel and presentation expenses for accepted work are covered. There are also opportunities for authorship on review articles, case reports, book chapters and clinical images. While in the program, trainees can expect to submit abstracts to the major meetings at which METRIC routinely presents:
METRIC has hosted trainees from Belarus, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Germany, India, Iran, Ireland, Japan, Jordan, Montenegro, Nepal, Pakistan, South Korea, Sudan, Syria and Turkey. More than 90 percent of applicants are accepted into the trainee program. Application processApplicants with clinical or research experience or both in any of the themes discussed on the METRIC website are encouraged to contact the METRIC investigator in whose research they are most interested. Applicants are required to send METRIC a personal statement explaining the skill set they would bring to the team and the level of commitment they are ready to show. Duration and timingThis program requires a full-time commitment for one year. Start dates are flexible. As no stipend is provided, trainees or their institutions are responsible for expenses. Trainees who demonstrate excellence in one of the themes while in the program will have an opportunity to apply for a research fellow position after six months. Other benefits
