About Dr. Gores![]() Dr. Gregory Gores is a Reuben R. Eisenberg Endowed Professor in Gastroenterology and Hepatology, professor of Medicine, and chair of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Gores received his medical degree from the University of North Dakota and completed his internal medicine residency and fellowship training in gastroenterology and hepatology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. After completing his fellowship in gastroenterology, Dr. Gores completed a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in the Department of Cell Biology, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He then returned to Mayo Clinic at Rochester, Minnesota, where he has ultimately been promoted as professor of Medicine and Physiology. Dr. Gores has published over 400 original articles, chapters, reviews, and editorials. Dr. Gores’s research is focused on the fundamental mechanisms underpinning cell death of liver cells employing models relevant to human disease. Dr. Gores has been elected into the honorific societies of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and the American Association of Physicians. He is a Mayo Distinguished Investigator. He has been active in a variety of professional activities. He has served as a standing member for two NIH Study Sections and recently chaired the Hepatobiliary Pathobiology Study Section. He has served on the Grants Review Committee for the American Liver Foundation. Dr. Gores is also currently an Associate Editor for Hepatology. He serves on the editorial boards for the American Journal of Physiology, American Journal of Gastroenterology, and Nature Reviews in Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Dr. Gores has participated in many activities and committees of the AASLD and is past president of this organization. |
