Gene Therapy for Diabetes Using Pancreas-targeting VectorsDr. Ikeda's lab has recently developed gene transfer vectors that allow specific and efficient gene delivery into pancreatic beta cells or acinar cells. By delivering beta cell-regenerating factors using these vectors, the lab was able to prevent mice from developing diabetes. Using diabetic mouse models, the lab is further testing whether these vectors can reverse type 1 and type 2 diabetes. |
