B2-Adrenergic Receptor Polymorphisms and Hemodynamic Responses to Terbutaline During Ganglionic BlockadeChristiane Hesse, M.D. IRB #: 4337-05 This protocol compares three groups of individuals with common polymorphic variation in the beta-2 adrenergic receptor gene. While measuring intrarterial pressure and cardiac output (acetylene breathing method), an intravenous infusion of the beta-2 agonist terbutaline is given after pharmacologic ganglionic blockade with trimethaphan. The trimethaphan is given to inhibit counter-regulatory baroreflexes during systemic beta-2 mediated vasodilation. This study is being done on individuals following a normal sodium diet, because we have found an interaction between dietary sodium restriction and cardiovascular function based on genotype. |
