The Effect of Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathotomy on Baroreflex Control of Heart Rate, Exercise Capacity, and Forearm Vasodilator Responses to Mental Stress

John H. Eisenach, M.D.

IRB #: 1247-05

This study compares various measures or cardiovascular control at rest, during mental stress, and bicycling exercise, before and after surgical therapy for hyperhidrosis. These otherwise healthy patients suffer from excessive sweating of the hands and feet. We hypothesize that the particular surgery performed here at Mayo Clinic will not affect cardiovascular function postoperatively.
