Role of Prostacyclin in Forearm Vasodilation in Patients with Essential Hypertension

Wayne T. Nicholson, M.D., Pharm.D.

IRB #: 854-05

Endothelial dysfunction has been demonstrated in patients with essential hypertension. Prostacyclin (PGI2) and nitric oxide are both endothelial derived substances important in regulation of normal vascular function. Using venous occlusion plethysmography, the purpose of this study is to evaluate the contribution of endothelial derived nitric oxide to prostacyclin mediated dilation in patients with endothelial dysfunction.
