OVERVIEW

Our research program addresses the problem of osteoporosis utilizing both clinical and basic laboratory science approaches. The program includes people with a wide variety of training and experience. The majority of our research is NIH funded and has major focuses in the area of the relationship of declining sex steroid levels in aging women and men to bone loss. These studies are complemented by animal studies using genetically engineered mice as well as studies in basic bone cell biology examining sex steroid action on bone cells at different stages of differentiation. Our studies represent the leading edge of osteoporosis research, especially in the area of male osteoporosis and basic bone cell biology.

Staff and secretarial offices along with the main laboratory are located on the 5th floor of the Joseph building. Additionally most of the clinical study facilities are located on the 6th floor of the Plummer Building and 7th floor of the Charlton Building. We also work actively with other groups within the Biostatistics, Biochemistry, Radiology and Biomedical Imaging Departments. Utilization of the General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) is an integral part of our clinical research protocols.
