Research in ethics explores fundamental questions of what ought to be done in the context of new medical technologies and the changing healthcare environment. The Biomedical Ethics Research Program, headed by Barbara A. Koenig, Ph.D., focuses on three key areas of inquiry: clinical ethics and end-of-life care, personalized medicine and genomics, and human subjects research. Research is both empirical and normative in nature, combining qualitative data methods with theoretical inquiry.
This research program is a component of the Department of Medicine's Program in Professionalism and Bioethics. It also houses the Clinical Research Ethics Resource, a component of Mayo's Center for Translational Science Activities (CTSA).
