Genetic Variation of Oxalate Transporters in CaOx NephrolithiasisPrincipal Investigator ![]() Dr. Monico is a junior investigator in nephrology, who has an interest in primary and enteric hyperoxaluria. Dr. Monico has assembled preliminary data describing polymorphisms in the Slc26a6 transporter. In this pilot project, Dr. Monico will genotype other members of the SLC26 family in her cohort of patients with unexplained hyperoxaluria, and a group of population-based idiopathic calcium oxalate stone formers and controls (drawn from Project 3: Epidemiology of nephrolithiasis and chronic kidney disease). In collaboration with Dr. Romero she will then determine which of these members has functional consequences and would be good candidates for larger genetic studies. Results of these protocols will provide important preliminary data for future nephrolithiasis research grants. |
