ADVANCED LIVER DISEASE CLINICThe Advanced Liver Disease Clinic is a multi-disciplinary ambulatory clinic within the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Its mission is to provide state-of-the-art diagnostic and evaluative services for patients with advanced liver disease. The clinic is staffed by 18 consultant physicians with expertise in the field of hepatology and liver transplantation. Support from allied health professional staff (nurse practitioners, research nurse coordinators) and trainees is available on a daily basis. Coordination of care between related specialties including the Departments of Radiology, Hepatobiliary Surgery, Anatomic Pathology, and Clinical Dietetics is also provided. An estimated 200-300 patients are referred annually for consideration of liver transplantation. The Mayo Clinic Liver Transplant center in Rochester, MN is the 4th original program started in 1984. An estimated 1700 liver transplants have been perfromed to date. The program is one of 3 centers in the United States with 1 and 3-year survival rates that are significantly higher than expected rates according to the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) organization.
