Study Overview

The Mayo Mammography Health Study is a large research study conducted by Mayo doctors that hopes to find a way to identify women at high risk for breast cancer, even before a physical exam or mammogram detects the tumor. Researchers will study the mammogram image and markers in the blood to find clues that may lead to new screening tests.

Researchers will also study the association between lifestyle exposures, such as hormone replacement therapy, and breast cancer risk. Specifically, they will look at changes in the breast image and whether current or past hormone use effects variations in breast tissue.

In this research study, we will collect questionnaires, mammograms and blood samples from 25,000 women. To date, over 12,000 women have participated. In creating this large resource, researchers hope to find answers that will assist in future prevention and treatment of breast cancer.
