OverviewWilliam J. Mayo, M.D., once wrote, “The research we do today will determine the type of medical and surgical practice we carry on at the clinic tomorrow.” The Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine at Mayo Clinic is dedicated to providing the best care to every patient every day through integrated clinical practice, education, and research. The needs of the patient come first. Among patients, the child’s needs are unique from biologic, developmental, demographic, and psychosocial aspects. We have 17 areas of specialties with renowned experts conducting pediatric research, with an emphasis on translating basic science discoveries into enhanced patient care. Our efforts focus on pediatric cancer therapy, including novel treatments and tumor immunology; pediatric immunogenetics; child growth and neurodevelopment; genetics of pediatric cardiovascular disease; pediatric infections and sepsis; postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, and outcomes evaluations. Our strategic efforts focus upon the following areas which in turn involve a number of our divisions working together.
