In the past two decades, researchers at Mayo Clinic and around the world have made great progress in understanding the fundamental genetic and biological mechanisms that contribute to polycystic kidney disease (PKD) onset and progression.
The Mayo Translational PKD Center, which builds on Mayo’s strong history of PKD research, focuses on translating these basic findings into new and better treatments that improve the care of patients with PKD.
PKD research in the center, as well as the center’s core services, concentrates on autosomal dominant PKD (ADPKD) — one of the two types of PKD — which affects one in every 400-1,000 individuals.
"The Mayo Translational PKD Center facilitates the translation of basic research breakthroughs into improvements in the management and treatment of patients with polycystic kidney disease."
