Model Systems CoreDirector: Michael F. Romero, Ph.D. The Model Systems Core develops and makes available PKD model systems and technologies as a way to evaluate potential therapies and determine the function of PKD proteins. The model organisms used in the core are C. elegans, rodents and zebrafish. The core offers five specific C. elegans-related and four specific zebrafish-related services; four rodent PKD models available in the core are used to test promising therapies prior to use in clinical trials. The core’s service offerings and numerous developmental projects are supported and bolstered by significant existing Mayo expertise related to these three organisms.
