Research is an integral part of the mission of the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology. The department is committed to developing research initiatives that will advance the development of new knowledge within our disciplines and synergistically across other disciplines. Members of the department also serve as collaborators on major institutional research initiatives focused on studies of psychogenomics, Alzheimer's disease, depression, anxiety, addictions, cancer prevention, obesity, traumatic brain disorder, and sleep disorders.

Our research goals

The Mayo Clinic Department of Psychiatry and Psychology conducts research that seeks to provide fundamental information on human behavior in health and disease. Our goal is to increase our knowledge through research and apply it directly to the care of the individual patient. Our research goals are to:

  • Decrease the burden of human neuropsychiatric diseases
  • Advance scientific and clinical knowledge about human behavior in health and disease and apply that knowledge to the development of new diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive measures.
