CURRENT PROJECTS- Correlation of changes in kidney blood flow and tubular reabsorption with components of the renin-angiotensin/oxidative stress cascade and endothelin in the renovascular hypertension induced by renal artery stenosis or in hypertension induced by chronic infusion of low dose angiotensin II.
- To test whether oxidative stress, induced by depletion of antioxidant capacity, leads to hypertension due to angiotensin II-induced activation of oxidative stress.
- To test if ischemic nephropathy, induced by renal artery stenosis, is accompanied by a chronic renal hypoxia and if this hypoxia is reversible after stenosis dilation as measured by blood oxygen-level dependent (BOLD) MRI.
