Objectives
The Renal Physiology Laboratories are located in the Stabile and Guggenheim buildings. The objective of the laboratory is to further understand the underlying abnormalities in kidney dysfunction and hormone(s) that lead to development of high blood pressure. The laboratory programs utilize functional imaging tools such as x-ray three dimensional tomography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to determine total and regional kidney blood flow, tubular reabsorption, as well as blood oxygen level. Studies are conducted in animal models rendered hypertensive by implantation of an intraarterial stent or via administration of pressor hormones.
