Understanding Atherosclerosis Through Molecular ImagingCurrently, it's not possible to detect the arterial atherosclerotic lesions that may evolve into more severe obstruction, leading to life-threatening vascular events (e.g., myocardial infarction, stroke, peripheral arterial disease). We are studying atherosclerosis using a wide array of molecular imaging technologies, such as nuclear cardiology, ultrasound, and so on, which are — for the first time — providing a non-invasive, improved and more accurate study of the biology of atherosclerotic disease. This technology will eventually be translated to clinical use. |
