Summary1) Acute Stroke Our research group studies acute brain ischemia. We maintain a prospective registry of all patients who present to the Emergency Department (ED) with signs of acute brain ischemia (stroke/TIA). Our work focuses on outcomes research with a special interest in prediction models, biochemical markers, and acute interventions. In addition to our research we facilitate and expedite acute stroke care at the scene, and deliver real time patient education, with a 24 hour hotline for our patients. We follow all our patients prospectively long term and are committed to optimizing their care as we study the disease. 2) Syncope including neurocardiogenic syncope, cardiac autonomic regulation, atrial fibrillation and sudden cardiac death Multidisciplinary approach to syncope evaluation: neurocardiogenic syncope and autonomic regulation. The multidisciplinary team includes emergency medical physicians, neurologists, internists and cardiologists. 3) Anaphylaxis Utilizing the Rochester Epidemiology Project (REP) database, Doctor Decker leads a multidisciplinary team evaluating trends in the frequency, causes, and treatments given for anaphylaxis. Members from the team include emergency medicine specialists, allergists, epidemiologists and biostatisticians. 4) Emergency Cardiac Care This collaborative between cardiologists and emergency physicians focused on optimizing the clinical care of patients, prescribing to the emergency department with acute cardiac emergencies.
