Specific areas of interest include the professionalization of physiology in the 19th century, American medical education in the 19th and 20th centuries, the history of cardiology, the history of specialization, and the history of the Mayo Clinic. I am the current medical director of the Mayo Clinic Center for the History of Medicine and president of the American Association for the History of Medicine (through May 2010).
