SummaryGuoqian Jiang, Ph.D., conducts research focused mainly on semantic model building and quality auditing of large scale biomedical terminologies/ontologies, collaborative authoring and annotation of biomedical terminologies/ontologies, clinical phenotyping and their integration with LexGrid and semantic web technologies. Dr. Jiang graduated from a medical school in China and received his Ph.D degree and postdoctoral fellowship on medical informatics in Japan. Prior to joining Mayo Clinic, his research work focused on context-based ontology building support system and multilingual ontologies in clinical domains. Dr. Jiang has developed a series of novel approaches on medical ontology building and transformation, visualization and quality auditing using the formal concept analysis (FCA) techniques. Specifically, he developed the FCA-based approaches on auditing semantic completeness of SNOMED CT, formalizing the ICF with the ICNP, formalizing ICD coding rules, visualizing the ontologies in Protege frame and OWL models (see FCAViewTab). In addition, he also developed a ICD ClamLizer that provides a user interface for transforming the ICD11 alpha contents in databases into a Classification Markup Language (ClaML) format. Currently, Dr. Jiang is leading a LexWiki project, which is a collaborative effort for developing a distributed terminology authoring platform based on semantic wiki techniques. The project is to support the collaborative terminology content development for WHO ICD11 revision project, NCI Biomed GT project, the Clinical Data Interchanges Standards Consortium (CDISC) Shared Health and Research Electronic Library (CSHARE) project and Mayo internal knowledge and vocabulary management project. In addition, Dr. Jiang is involved as a co-investigator in the projects including the Cancer Biomedical Informatics Grid Vocabulary Knowledge Center(caBIG VKC), the National Center for Biomedical Ontologies (NCBO), the CTSA Adverse Event Phenotype Ontology Project (ADE PHONT), the PGRN Phenotype Ontology Project (PGRN PHONT), the Electronic Medical Records and Genomics (eMERGE) Project, the Strategic Health IT Advanced Research Project (SHARP) - Research Focus Area 4: Secondary Use of EHR Data (SHARPN Project). Dr. Jiang is a member of the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA). He served as a reviewer of the journal Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (AIIM) and the Journal of Biomedical Informatics (JBI). Recent publicationsEducation
