SummaryTemporal arteritis is a systemic inflammatory condition that affects the elderly, and has the potential for serious effects on vision as well as other organs. Treatment of this condition, once diagnosed by temporal artery biopsy, involves the use of systemic steroids, and these have side effects that are debilitating and serious. We have been doing consecutive biopsies on patients with proven temporal arteritis, to ascertain an approximation of the time that the pathology in the vessels of the temporal artery has cleared.
