SummaryAttention-Deficit/Hyperactivity DisorderThe Mayo Clinic Child Development Research Group is currently conducting a National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Mental Health-funded study of long-term outcome of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity. This study involves an assessment of the long-term psychosocial, educational, and mental health outcomes for a large, population-based cohort of young adults with a history of childhood AD/HD. This study represents the largest, population-based study of the long-term outcomes of AD/HD to be undertaken, and will completed in 2011.
Epidemiology of Autism and Other Pervasive Developmental DisordersThis ongoing project focuses on the apparent increase in the rate of occurrence of autism and other pervasive developmental disorders that have been widely reported by researchers in the United States and elsewhere. This phenomenon has become a major national public health issue. A report of our findings was published in the Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, and highlighted by Time Magazine as one of the most important medical studies published in 2005. Currently, we are studying the potential benefit of psychopharmacologic treatment for certain target symptoms and behaviors in children with autism. Recent publicationsEducation
