Summary

Jeffrey B. Geske, M.D., is a fellow in the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases at Mayo Clinic. He is interested in noninvasive hemodynamic assessment of structural heart disease, including hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, valvular heart disease and heart failure.

Dr. Geske's research has focused on multimodality assessment of cardiac pressures. He has also published on cardiovascular care of patients with pulmonary embolism.

Focus areas

  • Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Dr. Geske's research in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy has focused on the comparison of invasive (cardiac catheterization) and noninvasive (transthoracic echocardiography) assessment of hemodynamics, including diastolic function and left ventricular outflow tract obstruction.
  • Pulmonary embolism. Dr. Geske has published data on outcomes of anticoagulation therapy and diagnosis timing in acute pulmonary embolism.
  • Heart failure. Dr. Geske is presently studying multimodality assessment of left ventricular filling dynamics in patients with hypertensive heart disease.

Significance to patient care

Dr. Geske's multimodality research provides better understanding of the complicated hemodynamic interactions found in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and heart failure. This knowledge allows clarification of underlying pathophysiology, in turn guiding treatment. His work on acute pulmonary embolism helps guide initial diagnosis and management.
