Summary

Application of stress testing and nuclear cardiology imaging to myocardial infarction and chronic coronary artery disease.

The Nuclear Cardiology Laboratory has an active research program with extensive external grant support for several different lines of investigation:

  1. We use technetium-99m sestamibi imaging to assess treatment efficacy in acute myocardial infarction.
  2. We use exercise stress testing and nuclear cardiology imaging to predict patient outcomes in patients with known or suspected coronary artery disease.
  3. We examine the cost-effectiveness of stress modalities in a variety of patient-care applications.
  4. We have a series of projects designed to define the technical strengths and weaknesses of nuclear cardiology imaging.

The laboratory employs a large database with on-line retrieval and an infrastructure that allows it to serve as the core laboratory for several multicenter studies. We work with a variety of personnel, including a research coordinator; a full-time, externally funded research nurse; a physicist and a radiopharmacist who have doctorates; and several computer programmers who have master's degrees. The laboratory is a recognized leader in nuclear cardiology, stress testing and myocardial infarction research.
