Summary

The major focus of my research relates to non-myeloablative hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HCT). I recently pursued a research fellowship in transplantation biology with Rainer Storb at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (FHCRC), in Seattle investigating non-myeloablative regimens in a canine model. The canine model has provided the foundation for the current non-myeloablative transplantation techniques in humans at the FHCRC. My interests include evaluation of novel postgrafting immunosuppressive regimens to determine safe and effective combinations to achieve mixed chimerism with minimal toxicity. Other avenues of investigation included the use of nonmyeloablative transplantation as a platform for adoptive immunotherapy to develop a graft-versus-solid organ (kidney) effect, or conversely to develop tolerance. I am actively involved in developing non-myeloablative transplantation techniques for clical use and I am particularly interested in developing such a strategy for patients with Myelofibrosis (agnogenic myeloid metaplasia).
