SummaryMy main research interests involve the areas of sports medicine and musculoskeletal medicine. Recent projects have included a series of investigations on proprioception of the low back and the effect of stability training after ankle injury. I am currently involved in an NIH sponsored multidisciplinary research project studying wrist joint mechanoreceptors. Strength training, including the importance of proper technique, and the appropriate application of therapeutic exercise, are also current areas of research interest. Finally, I am involved in epidemiologic studies of sports/fitness exercise and activity in an attempt to modify injury patterns. Recently, we completed a study looking at why children and adults do not wear bicycle helmets and future follow up studies could include assessing the effect of educational programs designed to address the reasons we delineated.
