SummaryWe are investigating mechanisms underlying painful neuropathic conditions such as complex regional pain syndrome (also known as RSD), post herpetic neuralgia, and distal small fiber neuropathy. We measure autonomic and sensory nerve function of patients who have pain and compare these results to normal volunteers. Measurements are made at rest, and under various experimental conditions. A second line of investigation involves measuring both pain and activity simultaneously using electronic data collection devices. We are using these techniques to study chronic and acute pain. Finally, we are studying acupuncture as a treatment for chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia. Recent publicationsEducation
