SummaryClinical Osteoporosis Research I am interested in the clinical side of osteoporosis research. Specifically, I have spent time exploring clinical decision tools and their use as population screening tools. Currently, I am planning a two part prospective study on a population-based cohort of postmenopausal women. The first phase will be to compare the currently available clinical decision tools to determine if these are efficacious in predicting which women will have low bone mass on Bone Mineral Density (BMD) testing. The second phase of this study will compare different patient education interventions in patients who are diagnosed with osteoporosis to determine which is most effective in ensuring medication compliance at one year. Perioperative Medicine I am also interested in the area of perioperative medicine. I am currently involved in the development of a protocol to examine perioperative estrogen to determine if its use in the perioperative period in postmenopausal women undergoing total hip or knee arthroplasty is associated with an excess risk of DVT/PE.
