SummaryI am a clinical researcher in Pediatric and Congenital Cardiology. I am the clinical director of the Pediatric Echocardiography Laboratory at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. My background is in Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology, but I have a strong interest in the adult with congenital heart disease as well. My primary research focus is on the use of echocardiography (ultrasound) in the evaluation and management of children with cardiac disorders of all types. Our laboratory has established programs evaluating the relationship between cardiac anatomy, function and clinical outcome, diastolic cardiac performance in children, telemedical transmission systems and their application in pediatric echocardiography/cardiology, the intraoperative use of echocardiography, and new technology in echocardiography (intracardiac, multidimensional and parametric systems). Our integrated practice allows for many interdisciplinary research opportunities. The congenital echocardiographic lab has close ties to our molecular genetic, MRI/CT imaging, and interventional catheterization programs. These interconnections allow a multitude of collaborative studies -- usually focused on patient management strategies and outcome assessments.
