SummaryOur research teams are interested in chronic upper and lower respiratory diseases in adults and children. First, we are interested in how care for patients with chronic asthma is delivered and how it can be improved. Specifically, we are interested in how individuals make decisions to start or stop their asthma medications, how the costs of asthma care influence decision-making, and in how patients use asthma action plans. We have also studied how guidelines influence asthma management and expenditures associated with asthma using a large national asthma database (Medical Expenditure Panel Survey). Secondly, we are interested in several areas that relate to chronic rhinosinusitis. We are investigating the immunologic events surrounding disease exacerbations, hoping that this will lead to improved management and new therapies. We are also interested in optimizing health delivery strategies for chronic rhinosinusitis; and in identifying and testing novel treatment strategies for chronic rhinosinusitis.
