SummaryMolecular Genetics and Genomics of juvenile dermatomyositis and other Pediatric Autoimmune disorders In our Moleuclar Genetics Laboratory, we have identified genes that predispose children to Juvenile Dermatomyositis (JDM). We have identified not only the association with these genes, but the functional differences which exist in these genes that predispose to the disease. Our present focus includes the identification of the protective HLA genes in JDM, giving us a comprehensive understanding of the genetics of the disease. We are investigating the genetics of the T cell receptors and how the expression of these genes changes over the course of the illness and with treatment. Our group is also involved in international multicenter trials to establish outcome measures for disease activity and chronicity and looking for new agents to treat this disease both in adults and children.
