SummaryThe focus of the lab's research is to investigate the physiology of intracranial EEG across multiple scales, from single neuron action potentials to ultraslow large scale voltage fluctuations. Our primary goal is to understand ictogenesis, though we also are have experiments addressing physiological markers of memory. The methods to do this require combining custom signal processing software and high bandwidth physiological recording techniques. The large volumes of data accumulated require sophisticated data storage and access infrastructure. Our lab is unique in having most of these technologies in place, along with ready access to new data from patients. Our results suggest a new model of ictogenesis occurring on the microscopic scale that may ultimately lend itself to device development for seizure warning or prevention, one of our ultimate goals.
