SummaryClinical Research Interests:
Recent clinical research interests include: ABO incompatible and Positive crossmatch kidney transplantation, chronic allograft nephropathy, pancreas transplantation immunosuppression and renal function, and islet transplantation for diabetic nephropathy.
Research Laboratory Interests:
In addition to my clinical research interests, I have maintatined a basic research laboratory for more than a decade. My research interests have been redefined over the past five years to emphasize translational research associated with clinical transplantation My current laboratory interests include: 1) the mechanism of alloantibody production in living donor kidney recipients and 2)genonomic studies of the intragraft environment that lead to fibrosis and chronic allograft nephropathy. Techniques employed in this laboratory include: morphometric analysis of renal biopsies, microarray analysis of human and rodent tissue, animal models of allograft rejection, assays of antibody levels and specificity, and isolation of antigen-specific alloantibody from both humans and mice.
These studies are designed not only to address basic scientific questions, but also to give insight that will have an immediate impact on patient care. In addition, the laboratory provides an environment for the training of future surgical researchers. Recent publicationsEducation
